The year 2021 was an amazing year for Luyando Foundation with regards to achievements attained by the Luyando Foundation girls football team, in addition to representing the Luyando Foundation sports academy and participating in the Zambia international football matches. Luyando girls football team had made history as they made a name on various sporting events. Luyando girls football team took part in the 2020/2021 Football Association of Zambia Lusaka Provincial Women’s League in which they did exceptionally well as can be seen by the records.

This remarkable performance of the Luyando girls football team attracted attention for Zambia national team coaches, who are invited some of the girls from Luyando Foundation sports academy to participate in the Zambia national team U20 for  Senior Women National Team, U20 women National Team and U17 women National Team.

Gala award 2021

Among the girls invited to participate in the national duties were Evarine Suzeni Katongo who was part of the senior women national team that took part in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics which were held in Japan. Evarine has since been appointed as the Zambia U20 Women Team Captain. Precious Phiri, Elles Chilandula, Tefeoga Munene, Shanice Kolala among others have since represented the Luyando Foundation sports academy and the Nation for various tournaments.

On 26th November 2021, the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) held its ever women Gala football awards at Arakan Barrack Banquet hall. The first-ever women sports awards were organized to recognize the female footballers for their contributions to their clubs, provincial and national engagements.

Luyando Foundation is very proud to announce that one of our girls Evarine Suzeni Katongo managed to win the young player of the year award and her counterpart, Elles Chilandula won the best player of the season for Lusaka province.

Luyando Foundation is happy to have the girls from the Luyando Foundation sports academy nominated for the best performance in different categories. Luyando Foundation managed to sponsor a girl to participate and attend the gala.

Due to the success of the girl’s football team of the Luyando Youth Program, Luyando Foundation has registered this year the  Luyando Foundation Sports Academy, which includes girls and boys. Despite financial challenges coupled with the effect of Covid-19, the Luyando Foundation sports academy had a lot of successes recorded for the year 2021.
