Welcome to the Luyando Foundation -promoting education to the vulnerable children and Empowering African Women and Youths.
Established in 2010 by Fernando and Kim, the Luyando Foundation derives its name from “love” in ILA, the language of Fernando’s Zambian tribe. With deep love and passion for women and girls, we embarked on a mission to empower African communities. Our foundation is a nonprofit, humanitarian organization dedicated to alleviating poverty and empowering less privileged families.
At the heart of our mission is the drive to help women, girls, boys, and teens overcome the various challenges that surround them. We address critical social development issues, including HIV/AIDS, Sexual Reproductive Health Rights, Gender-Based Violence, Teen Pregnancies, Early Marriages, Mental Health, Education, Governance, Hygiene Education, as well as Substance and Drug Abuse.
Luyando Foundation currently operates in various communities in Lusaka, including Chibolya, Kanyama, John Laing, George, and Mtendere Compounds. Our focus is primarily on the Kanyama constituency, where we are location-based.

Our Approach
To effectively implement our programs, we employ three core approaches – the Women’s Group Department (Luyando Foundation Women’s Group), the Community School Department (Luyando Foundation Shining Star Community School), and the Youth Department (Luyando Foundation Sports Academy). These departments play a crucial role in driving our initiatives, with sports serving as a vital tool to promote change and development.
Through the Luyando Foundation program, children from communities like Chibolya, George, Kanyama, Misisi, and Mtendere have received genuine help and hope. Our identified approaches, including women’s programs, youth empowerment, and community schools, have made a significant impact.
The generous emotional support provided by the Luyando Foundation enables children living in poverty to access essential programs and services. By meeting their basic needs and offering guidance, we aim to break the cycle of poverty and pave the way for a brighter future.
Our Vision
Our vision is to create a positive transformation in the lives of these children. Through our efforts and in partnership with contributors, we strive to instil healthier habits, enhance self-esteem, provide education and skills for a better life, and unlock more opportunities for them.
At the Luyando Foundation, we are committed to bringing real and lasting change to children living in poverty. With the support of donors and well-wishers, we aim to reduce their daily struggles, invest in their potential, and empower them to grow up healthy, educated, and prepared to succeed and contribute to society.
Join us in our journey to empower African women and young girls, making a difference one life at a time. Together, we can bring real help and real hope to those in need.
At the Luyando Foundation, our mission is to promote girls’ education, empowering the youths using sport, and empower women by championing three powerful pillars of change.
Education
First and foremost, we are dedicated to promoting girls’ education. By investing in the education of young girls and vulnerable children who are infected and affected by HIV/poverty, we open a world of opportunities, empowering them to reach their full potential and become confident leaders of tomorrow.
Using sport to empower the youths
Through the dynamic and unifying force of sports, we empower the youth, instilling essential values and life skills that foster resilience, teamwork, and determination. Our sports initiatives go beyond the field; they shape character and build a generation of empowered and responsible individuals.
Empowering women by providing them with basic surviving skills
Furthermore, we are deeply committed to empowering women of all ages by providing them with fundamental survival skills and health training. By equipping women with the tools they need to thrive, we initiate a transformative ripple effect that elevates not just their own lives but also those of their families and entire communities.
